In the creation of this and all her programmes of learning, one of Barbara's key goals is to progressively build a body of skills and knowledge. These skill and knowledge can then be carried over into the following year.

"It's definitely scaffolded learning," Barbara explains. "There are some important skills I want students to develop before they get to year 11 so I don't have to teach it all again – I can just do a one-off lesson to remind them and then they can go away and do it independently."

Barbara is also confident that the programme of learning is now well set up for any teacher to take on and manage, while still providing enough flexibility to put their individual stamp on it.

The plan for future programmes of learning is that key themes and topics may be changed while maintaining the relevant craft, construction, and machining skills, growth of student technology knowledge, and effective aspects of practice, so crucial to success in the senior school.
