About the World of WearableArt

World of WearableArt™ Entry Criteria

Entry opens for potential and returning designers on 1 December when the WOW Entry Kit is issued and the section themes made known. Designers can work together, but are limited to teams of three. In 2011 a pool of $150,000 in prize money was allocated to various awards.
Designers could enter one of seven sections:

  • CentrePoint Illumination Illusion
  • Man Unleashed
  • Children's
  • Gen-i Creative Excellence
  • Tourism New Zealand Avant Garde
  • Air New Zealand Kiwi Icons
  • American Express Open

All garments were also eligible to win the special prizes:

  • Brancott Estate Supreme WOW Award
  • Untouched World WOW Factor Award
  • Student Design Award
  • Booker Spalding First Time Entrant Award
  • WETA Award
  • Wellington International Award
  • The Dominion Post People's Choice Award
  • Mainfreight Packing Award

Designers must meet all WOW requirements. An entry must be original, designed and created by the designer who is also responsible for ensuring it complies with copyright guidelines. Garments must be made in a specific size range, so that they can fit any of the models in the show, and have height/width restrictions for appearing on stage.

Entrants are provided with a timeline and checklist, to help them through the process of entering the awards, preparing their garment and sending it to Wellington.
