This resource provides teachers with a rich variety of materials to support the teaching of Technology, and could provide additional support for students as they undertake technological practice to develop their own piece of wearable art. It could also provide an inspirational look into the boundaries of art and technology to develop student understanding related to the Technological Knowledge and/or Nature of Technology strands.

While the materials could also be used to support older students and different Components of Technology, we have developed the activities below with a focus on Years 7-10. These are aimed at progressing student understanding of Characteristics of Technology, Technological Products and Technological Modelling across levels 1-3 of The New Zealand Curriculum (2007).

For further details of how student learning in these three Components progresses, see the Nature of Technology and Technological Knowledge, Indicators of Progression and the relevant progression diagrams.

The ideas on the following pages may be useful for teachers to mix and match, depending on the learning outcomes underpinning their Technology programme.
