There is an impetus to lift the profile of digital technologies within the technology learning area to address the impact of digital technology on our everyday lives and to encourage students to consider career paths in this industry.
The Ministry of Education is exploring a model of curriculum design based on learning progressions. In 2016, the Ministry launched the Learning Progressions Frameworks for reading, writing, and mathematics.
When developed and trialled, learning progressions for digital technology will illustrate the significant steps that students take as they develop their conceptual understandings in digital technology.
