Report slams lax safety practices at Pike River mine

The Royal Commission of Inquiry’s report on the Pike River Mine disaster has slammed the mine management and the Department of Labour for a lax attitude towards health and safety. The report is the product of nearly a year of hearings and makes 16 recommendations to improve the safety of the underground coal mining industry. Cabinet has adopted 15 of the recommendations.
