The Golden Pliers competition is held annually at the National Agricultural Fieldays. Competitors erect a fence, which is judged on quality, appearance, tension, and its ability to withstand a two tonne load. Judges scrutinise each staple, fencepost, knot and wire.

- Brief development: Use this and other examples to communicate the outcome to be produced, identify attributes for an outcome (level 1) and establish a conceptual statement that justifies the nature of the outcome and why such an outcome should be developed, and establish the specifications for an outcome based on the nature of the outcome required to address the need or opportunity and informed by key stakeholder considerations (level 5).
- Characteristics of technological outcomes: Use this and other examples to identify who might use particular technological outcomes (level 1) and explain why time and context are important criteria for judging the fitness for purpose of technological outcomes (level 5).
