So you're teaching technology

These six introductory modules present some key concepts, resources, and insights from research for you to explore with your colleagues or on your own.

They may be particularly useful for teachers who are new to technology education (or to teaching technology in New Zealand) and for teachers in charge of technology.

The technology learning area aims to develop in students “a broad technological literacy that will equip them to participate in society as informed citizens and give them access to technology-related careers” (NZC, page 32).

To achieve this, two things are vital:

  • teacher knowledge
  • a coherent teaching and learning programme within and across levels.

These modules are designed to introduce you to:

  • key resources for growing your own professional knowledge and planning a technology programme
  • findings from contemporary research undertaken in New Zealand classrooms.

The questions at the end of each module can be used as catalysts for your own thinking or for discussion with colleagues.
