Element 3: Technology in New Zealand
This element acknowledges the place of technology in The New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) (Ministry of Education, 2007).
Element 3 has the following three aspects.
Aspect 1: Technology as an essential learning area
Outlines the development of technology education in New Zealand, and policies and practice that support this. This aspect supports student teachers to appreciate the relationship between policy and classroom practice in technology education.
Aspect 2: Understanding Technology
Outlines the structure and intentions of technology as an Essential Learning Area (ELA) in the NZC. This aspect supports student teachers to understand the structure and intentions of Technology as an ELA.
Aspect 3: Policy and Practice
Situates technology in the NZC. This aspect supports student teachers to understand the relationship between technology and the broader NZC.
