  • Website: The New Inventors

    Australian TV programme The New Inventors (based on ABC TV's 1970s programme The Inventors) features inventors who present their outcomes to a judging panel. Some of these episodes are on their website (link above), along with short (90 second) video clips in which individuals discuss why and how they developed their outcomes.

  • Deconstructing Product Design Exploring the Form, Function, Usability, Sustainability and Commercial Success of 100 Amazing Products

    What makes a product successful? In their book Deconstructing Product Design William Lidwell and Gerry Manacsa attempt to answer this question by considering what is involved in successful design: “How it looks? The way it functions? Its ease of use? Or do factors like price and marketing dominate?” They have critically analysed 100 innovative products and sought comment on each design from experts in a variety of design disciplines.

    This instructional PDF was created by Sandy Garner, a Professional Practice Fellow in the University of Otago's Computer Science Department, to assist with the basic programming of Lego's NXT robots using Lego Mindstorm software.
